Articles: USA back to NZ

Monday, October 30, 2006 - 08:40 AM, (1123 Reads)

HJ & I are currently in the Air NZ lounge for 3 hours waiting our flight back to NZ. We arrive back on 31st Oct having left Honolulu on the 29th. Monday is lost forever.

Looking back on our trip - there was the excitement of the Hall of Fame and then the Train Trip across Canada was greatly anticipated. We made lots of friends on this trip and none of them slept well. The night was full of jiggety jogs and whoops from the engine as it came to level crossings. The waiting staff was not of the same class as the Fairmont hotels we had stayed with but the attention from them became paramount as tips became due.

The first photo here was on the Athabasca Glacier on which we were able to walk - mostly slip! The second photo was the incomparable blue of Lake Louise............ Now came the immense scottish styled castle of Banff Springs Hotel. I walked around this place, inside for over and hour and never went outside! It snowed here as it did on the train trip which was very early in the season.

This view was down a river valley and alongside was this snow-clad golf course.

In Jasper Park Lodge there were huge Elk wandering around at 3am, one was of the many antlered variety. They were within feet of our front door. Vancouver was the last stop in Canada and was found to be a friendly, clean and very interesting city.

I personally, would love to go back. We had had a trolley tour organised for us and was able to hop on and hop off at interesting spots. The drivers were all very amusing and informative.

Stanley Park in Vancouver is a park for Canada to be proud of. Huge, full of trees, playing fields, beaches, paths for biking, rollerskating and walking and racoons..... John was too encouraging to a trio who came up to his knee hoping for forbidden food. He got a nasty bite on his finger!

Hawai was of course, warmer - mostly around 29deg and the pools were very welcome. In the south, there were the surfers creaming the rolling waves and being out there from 7am till sunset.

This view is from our balcony in this Timeshare Resort. The sound of the rolling waves took a little getting used to. Reminded us of St Clair in Dunedin.

Well, back home tomorrow and the day after to Glen Foulis.
